Denominations SacredSafe© policy works to ensure a safe worship and work environment
August 9, 2021- Washington, DC [OCNN] In its continued commitment to protect minors as well as vulnerable populations, the North American Old Catholic Church completed its annually required background check of all clergy, seminarians and lay leaders.
In its policy “SacredSafe©” first adopted in 2009, annual background checks are required. Additional background checks are completed when a member of the church has a “status change” such as ordination, appointment to a board or pastoral position.
Archbishop Michael Seneco, the denominations presiding bishop: “The NAOCC has a 12-year history of zero tolerance against negative background checks, sexual harassment, sexual assault and most importantly, sexual abuse of those in the vulnerable populations we serve. Our dedication to the protection of all our adherents and staff is absolute.”
All but one background check cleared review, with one undergoing enhanced investigation. If the one background check precludes continued participation, SacredSafe© requires transparency through notification of the media and the parish community.
