Church to ordain two Deacons and two Auxiliary Bishops
August 5, 2021 – Washington, DC Today, the North American Old Catholic Church (NAOCC) announced the plans for it’s 2021 General Episcopal Synod, it’s first 9 years.
In 2013, the denomination shuttered operations, and its clergy moved to other Old or Independent Catholic Churches. In the Spring of 2021, former NAOCC and new clergy approached the NAOCC’s former presiding bishop with a request to resurrect the denomination.
Along with conducting the “business of church” those gathered with visit several DC-area Catholic institutions and spend time in fellowship and prayer.
On Saturday afternoon, Ms. Karen Amato of Troy Michigan and Mr. Brad Freeman of Fort Worth Texas will be ordained as transitional deacons, the last step before ordination to the Catholic priesthood.
On Sunday afternoon, Old Catholic Bishops from the region will join to consecrate Father Thomas Newsom of Fort Worth and Father Jeffrey Harris of Mt. Clemens Michigan to the ancient and historic order of Catholic Bishops. They will serve the NAOCC as regional bishops.
Both ordinations will take place at 3:00 PM the Cathedral of St. Michael’s New Catholic Church in Lansdowne, Maryland, and are open to the public. Strict COVID precautions are in effect at the Cathedral- please bring a mask and observe all and federally required measures.
